Meet Manhattan Tutor JP

My name is JP, and I am a Kaplan tutor in New York City!

Q: What is your favorite skill to teach?

A: I love teaching fractions to students. Using tricks of the trade, I love watching the kids when they absolutely “get it.” It is very rewarding because math always follows the same rules so no matter what numbers you change, the basic rules remain.

Q: Outside of tutoring, what’s your favorite fun activity to do with kids?

A: I like to do magic tricks with the kids. I pick tricks that are not only engaging for the kids, but also are going to baffle them and keep them wondering. It’s my own little way of squeezing that last bit of work out of them. Once they finish their last exercise, we have magic time!

Q: What are your favorite hobbies?

A: I love going to the theatre, doing magic, cooking and baking. After work, I like running along the river and reading Harry Potter.
